 Iberia Airlines Flights

As the flag carrier of Spain and based in Madrid, Iberia Airlines operates domestic and international flight services.  Iberia has two main airport hubs which are located in Madrid and Barcelona.  In addition to offering flight services to passengers, Iberia operates related services such as aircraft maintenance, handling, IT support systems and in-flight catering services.

Iberia.com began its commercial flight operations in 1927, within a year the airlines was sponsored by the Spanish government to provide postal transport between Madrid and Barcelona.  During the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera, the aviation companies in Spain were combined and became state-controlled, as a result, Iberia was merged into Compañía de Líneas Aéreas Subvencionadas S.A. and ceased activities on 29 May 1929. The name "Iberia" continued to be registered by Director-General Daniel de Araoz y Aréjula. As the name "Iberia" was still registered, it was used when operations began in nationalist-held territory towards the end of Spanish Civil War. Following the Civil War, it became a purely domestic airline.

During 2001 Iberia was privatised and shares were listed on stock exchanges. By 2002, when Iberia celebrated its 75th anniversary, nearly 500 million people had flown with them.

Today Iberia Airlines is the largest airline group operating in Spain and is one of the larger airline operators in Europe. Iberia currently operates out of more than 100 airports world-wide and offering more than a thousand flights a day to approximately 40 countries. It is the airline that has the most number of routes connecting from Europe to Latin America. Iberia Airways is also a founding member of a global aviation partnership called the One-World alliance.

Iberia offers a number of flights to African Countries both independently and through its One-World Alliance partners.  Iberia flies to the following African Countries:

  • South Africa – Johannesburg
  • Nigeria – Lagos
  • Morocco – Casablanca
  • Morocco – Marrakech
  • Equatorial Guinea – Malabo
  • Senegal – Dakar
  • Egypt – Cairo
